On a moment-by-moment basis we are faced with an environment that is in a continual state of flux, changing over time and space. Coherent and adaptive behavior in this complex environment is supported by the interplay between sensory, perceptual and cognitive systems and those systems that control our physiological states. Attention provides a powerful coping mechanism that mediates the prioritization of information processing. Our work is focused on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of attentional priority control and how these mechanisms are influenced by physiological states.
